Local specialty
1. Shanshang District has a total of 1462.3 hectares of arable land, and is home to 1168 farming households.
2. Management model: During the early days, Shanshang's farmers grew paddy fields, sweet potatoes, and sugarcane. Recent government have promoted higher value crops and plants such as orchids in an attempt to transform previous labor-intensive faming community.
3. Current Main crops
i. Hoop-house Papayas: A total of 79 hectares are used to grow hoop-house papayas. About 1600 to 1800 papaya trees are grown per hectare, each tree producing about 100 kg of papayas.
ii.Pineapples: A total of 293 hectares are used to grow pineapples in Shanshang District. 38,000 to 40,000 pineapples are grown per hectare, with the pineapples weighing about 1.2 kg each.
iii.Flowers: The Shanshang Farmer's Association and Floricultural Support Section has promoted the farming of ornamental plants such as Peace Lilies (Spathiphyllum kochii), Imperial Green (Philodendron), Golden Pothos (Epipremnum aureum), Yellow Palm (Dypsis lutescens), Fulutong (Guilfoyle polyscias), variegated Croton (Codiaeum variegatum), and Dumbcane (Dieffenbachia).
